Extracurricular Activities

Welcome to our Extracurricular Activities page! Here at Festival Foothills, we have activities and events that will help enhance your child's learning, develop leadership skills, and help discover/develop his/her talents. Some of our activities include student council, tutoring, yearbook, and band. Please check out the options below.

Student Council

Student Council starts in September. An assembly for all 4th-8th graders will introduce the students to student council, and we'll send home officer positions applications that same week. We will hold class elections in the 4th-8th grade representatives’ classrooms. The student council members are responsible for planning many events at Festival Foothills such as spirit week, pep assemblies, food drives, and more. Elected members of Student Council must be a good role model at all times and do well in their classes. Student Council meetings will be held from 2:50-3:30 p.m. Please see our meeting dates below.

If you are thinking about applying for a student council position, we encourage you to read the Student Council Officer Responsibilities.

Band

Research has shown that playing an instrument contributes to academic achievement in many different ways. Not only is it included in the state standards, it is an integral part of the state standards for music education. Plus, it is a lot of fun! I strongly encourage all students to consider participating in the band. Please click on each band below for more information.

Tutoring

Our after school tutoring program starts in September. Tutoring for first through fourth grades will be after school on Tuesday and Wednesday until 3:45 p.m. Fifth through eighth graders will meet after school on Wednesday and Thursday until 3:45 p.m. The tutoring program strives to help students who continue to struggle with an essential standard.

Each first through eighth grade student takes formative assessments at the end of studying a grade level learning standard. If a student has not mastered the learning standard by scoring at least 80% on the formative assessment, we recommend the student for re-teach the next week during the school day. If after a week of re-teach the student needs more help mastering the standard, we recommend him or her for after school tutoring.

At the end of each week, teachers will notify parents by letter or e-mail if their student is recommended for tutoring. Parents, please RSVP with your student’s teacher for tutoring. These notifications should come home at the end of the week.
